5 Reasons to Make accessibleGO Your Go-To Travel Resource

It’s Monday morning. Fan mail has arrived.

Miriam Eljas Goldman, CEO and co-founder of accessibleGO, a travel platform for people with disabilities, has three emails from new users and 36 new Facebook comments from people interested in accessible travel.

The  travel startup regularly receives feedback like this from their accessible travel articles.

I’m a fan too.  Here are five reasons why accessibleGO should become your go-to travel platform.

REASON #1: INFORMATIVE & INSPIRING ARTICLES

accessibleGO’s informative travel articles have become big hits on Facebook.

Their Summer Guide to Accessible Beaches went viral this summer on Facebook, collecting over 1,000 Likes (including lots of “Loves” and “Wows”).

“We try to focus our articles on accessibility information that really makes a difference for people,” says Daniel Keebler, accessibleGO’s Director of Marketing.

Indeed, accessibleGO has already won first place for Booking.com’s regional travel startup competition.

REASON #2: TRIP RESOURCES FOR ACCESSIBILITY

When traveling with a disability, proper planning is crucial.

accessibleGO’s Trip Resources is a travel directory worth bookmarking.

You can find accessible transportation, equipment rentals, caregivers, and even access-friendly tour companies.

You can save resources to your Favorites on accessibleGO so they’re easy to look up later when you’re on the go.

REASON #3: VOICE YOUR OPINIONS

accessibleGO lets you leave reviews of hotels, travel attractions, and travel businesses.

Ever stay at a hotel that went the extra mile to accommodate your accessibility requests?  Leave them a 5-star review on accessibleGO.

Disappointed by the level of access at a tourist attraction?  Let others know what to look out for!

“People no longer have to feel like they’re powerless to improve accessibility.  Anyone can leave a review about their accessibility experience at a hotel or attraction,” says Miriam.

REASON #4: ENTICING HOTEL DISCOUNTS

According to Miriam, “the travel articles and trip resources are just the beginning.”

This year, accessibleGO launched the world’s first travel discount program exclusively for people with disabilities.

There are 53 million people in the U.S. living with a disability.  In a world brimming with student discount programs and perks for business travelers, accessibleGO asked, “Why shouldn’t travelers with disabilities be offered discounts too?”

accessibleGO’s free travel club (dubbed “clubGO”) offers discounts ranging from 10% to 60% off on select U.S. hotels, motels and resorts.

The small team has tested their clubGO discounts against dozens of popular travel sites.  So far, they have not found a site that can beat their hotel deals.

“Even our retail prices are highly competitive,” explains Miriam.  “So whether you find a special deal through clubGO or not, booking through accessibleGO is as good or better than mainstream travel platforms and helps us promote better hotel accessibility.”

REASON #5: PRACTICAL TRAVEL INFORMATION

accessibleGO has started collecting detailed information about the accessibility for hotels in the 30 most visited U.S. cities.

“What you get with accessibleGO is a new kind of travel experience for those traveling with a disability,” says Jeff Schlanger, CTO and co-founder of accessibleGO.

While mainstream hotel websites might list a hotel as “accessible,” they do not provide further details.

On accessibleGO, hotels in the top 30 U.S. cities show you the exact hotel accessibility features that a guest can expect when staying at a particular hotel.

The accessibleGO platform contains more than 40 accessibility criteria, including a step-free entrance, roll-in showers, bed heights and more.

So far, the accessibleGO team has collected accessibility data for 3,000 U.S. hotels in the top 30 most visited U.S. cities.

They’re hard at work increasing their coverage to the estimated 50,000 properties in the U.S.

In the meantime, travelers with disabilities are taking advantage of accessibleGO’s attractive hotel discounts and competitive retail prices.

“People understand that we’re just getting started and have big goals for improving accessible travel.  A lot of people ask us how they can help out,” says Miriam.

In response to all the positive feedback, accessibleGO launched a dedicated Vision page to explain their goals and how anyone can help build the accessible travel platform.

With their accessibility information, trip resources, customer reviews, and hotel discount program, accessibleGO is tearing down the barriers to accessible travel.
