The trip that I look forward to the most every year is the annual Curb Free Group Trip! Since 2018, we have done group trips in Morocco, Iceland, and Costa Rica. And later this year, we will be doing a group trip in Patagonia, which I am incredibly excited about!
When thinking about potential destinations for the 2023 Curb Free Group Trip, I considered a variety of places, but one place stood out above the rest. I truly believe that this destination is the most accessible city in the world. I was able to visit it several years ago and I was extremely impressed with the accessible beaches, accessible attractions, and literally everything else within the destination. It blew me away.
So, what is the destination for the 2023 Curb Free Group Trip?? It is…
BARCELONA, SPAIN (AND MORE)!!!!!
That’s right, in June 2023 we will be heading to Spain, where we’ll first explore the beautiful city of Barcelona and then we’ll go to Girona for several days. Spain is a stunning country and one of my favorite places in the world. And even better, this trip will be in collaboration with Wheel the World, so you can 100% count on it being a fully accessible trip!
Wheel the World offers accessible tours in more than a dozen destinations around the world. There is no better company to experience Spain with and I’m so thrilled that they are willing to partner with Curb Free with Cory Lee for this epic trip!
Trip itinerary
We will arrive in Barcelona on June 11th, 2023 and depart on June 18th, 2023. During those 8 days, we are going to see a LOT! Here is the itinerary:
DAY 1: WELCOME TO BARCELONA!
Your guide will welcome you at the airport and take you to your hotel in a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Depending on what time you arrive, you’ll have a free day to rest or enjoy Barcelona. We will be staying at the ILUNION Auditori.
DAY 2: BARCELONA, CATALAN MODERNISM, ALL GAUDÍ!
After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will pick you up in a wheelchair accessible vehicle to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site and the great works of Gaudí.
On this guided and accessible tour, you will visit Sagrada Familia, Casa Pedrera and Park Güell. You will get to learn more about his inexhaustible imagination when you visit the extraordinary Park Güell, and of course, how he turned dreams into stone with the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia.
After this intense and informative morning, you will have a free afternoon to discover other locations or go back to your hotel.
DAY 3: WINE TASTING EXPERIENCE AND THE BEACH
After waking up in this beautiful city, you will have breakfast at your hotel before meeting your guide who will take you to enjoy an enogastronomic experience.
A visit to Barcelona would not be complete without the opportunity to taste and see how one of the best Catalan wines and sparkling wines is made.
A private car and a guide-sommelier will take you directly to the small family winery of organic farming, where you can get to know the winery, stroll through its accessible vineyards and cherry on top : taste its award-winning wines and cavas with an excellent pairing of all local products such as the Iberian ham and matching cheeses.
After being immersed in this enogastronomic experience, you will be taken back to the hotel for free time to rest and get ready for the experience at the beach.
Nova Icària is one of the beaches situated about halfway along the city seafront. It is well known for its accessibility and offers comfortable beach wheelchairs, volunteer assistance, and accessible paths that lead to other accessible facilities like bathrooms and showers. Enjoy the afternoon at the beach!
DAY 4: MONTSERRAT AND PENEDÈS. LEISURE + CUISINE
In the morning you will embark on an excursion to the Monastery of Montserrat. A Benedictine abbey located on the mountain of Montserrat, at 720 meters above sea level. A beautiful wood carving with one of the most prestigious representations of the Black Madonna in the world is located in the monastery. In 1844, Pope Leo XIII declared her patron saint of Catalonia. The image is a symbol for Catalonia and a pilgrimage point for believers and tourists.

DAY 5: EMPURIABRAVA Y L’ESTARTIT – COSTA BRAVA
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll check out and embark on an excursion to the Catalan coast, north of Catalonia, called Costa Brava. Its sea-mountain landscape, the emerald blue of its waters, and its wonderful atmosphere will captivate you. Your guide will pick you up at the hotel to travel to Costa Brava.
On the way, you’ll stop at the ruins of Empuriabrava, one of the few archaeological sites in the Iberian Peninsula where Greek and Roman remains coexist. After touring the ruins, you’ll find a fantastic medieval village where you can enjoy the authentic Empordà food. Then, you’ll head to Girona where you will check into your hotel to rest.
DAY 6: GIRONA
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be able to enjoy some beach time. You can dive, practice an adaptive sport such as kayaking or sailing, or simply enjoy the sun and Mediterranean waters. In the afternoon, your guide will lead you on a tour of the city of Girona.
After lunch, your guide will pick you up to go to Girona, one of the most important historical cities in Catalonia. A city whose past dates back to the time of the Roman Empire and has a unique historic center.
You will see vestiges of different eras of the city’s history, spectacular views and a unique atmosphere that will catch you right away. In recent years several scenes from the famous Game of Thrones series have been shot here, representing another attraction in the city of Girona.
After immersing in this unique place, we will get back to the hotel.
DAY 7: SANTA EULALIA + MAGIC NIGHTS
Check-out of hotel in Girona and transfer to Barcelona.
In the afternoon you will be picked up from the hotel.
You will be then transferred to the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia. This emblematic cathedral is a Gothic cathedral in Barcelona. Built between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, Santa Eulalia Barcelona is a major religious attraction in the city.
In the evening, visit Magic Nights, a series of romantic concerts that take place on the rooftop ‘dragon roof terrace’ of Gaudi’s bedazzling Casa Batllo. Enjoy a sparkling glass of Cava (produced in the nearby Penedes wine region) as the sun sets and you listen to the soft refrains of pop, jazz, rock, blues, rumba and flamenco by some of Catalonia’s best musicians.
This event includes a self-guided evening visit of the Casa Batllo, a drink of your choice and live music with views over Barcelona.
